What is your definition of a false prophet?

I believe that god sends many prophets to us. but most wont listen. I think a false prophet is someone who claims to be gods messenger, or says they are an equal to god, and then ask you to worship them. and give them all your money, and leave your family.


I think a true prophet is someone who gives god all the credit, and helps to make you more spiritual, and see the truth of god, and give you knowledge of the other side, and of what we are here for.

The last few verses of Deuteronomy 18 give us God's definition of a false prophet.
Anyone who denies The Holy Deity of Jesus Christ is false and there are many ';antichrists'; out there too! %26lt;')))%26gt;%26lt;
One who claims to know the future.
14 Then the LORD said to me, ';The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries [a] and the delusions of their own minds. 15 Therefore, this is what the LORD says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them, yet they are saying, 'No sword or famine will touch this land.' Those same prophets will perish by sword and famine. 16 And the people they are prophesying to will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and sword. There will be no one to bury them or their wives, their sons or their daughters. I will pour out on them the calamity they deserve





A false prophet would be anyone claiming to have knowledge of future, you, God, tomorrow, the end of days etc... It is a very bad thing to claim to be the voice of God as you can see above.
You have your definitions off, so thereby your conclusion is inaccurate.





A prophet speaks the Word of God. However, such word needs to be paired with prophecy to prove that he is a true prophet. A prophecy that does not come to pass make him a false prophet.





Deuteronomy 18:22


...when a prophet speaks in the name of the YHWH, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which YHWH has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.





Case in point, the Mormons believe in latter day prophets. However, to date, none have prophesied anything at all.
No such things as prophets today.





We are to follow the APOSTLE that God appointed to give US information relevant to the program of GRACE that God is operating in today.





God has given us all the instruction necessary to our living the Christian life in His WORD. His last words to mankind were to Paul to give to US....and there is where we find OUR instructions for today.





Anyone not teaching truths from the epistles of Paul as OUR instructions today is a false teacher. We are not under the law of Moses and Peter is NOT our apostle.





Do a study on circumcision and UNcircumcision and see who taught which.





We are under the gospel of the UNcircumcision today.

Jesus was the Message of God (not ';god';). He was NOT a false prophet even though He claimed equality with God.





This sounds like a muslem rant, but when you stand before God after you die, you will see the nail prints in His hands and feet!





A false prophet, according to the Bible, is one who claims that Jesus did NOT come in the flesh as the Son of God.
A false prophet is one who always tells you what you want to hear and has no objection to being on your payroll. The only reason a true prophet would appear is because someone is screwing up and needs a heads-up from God.
I'm sure there are many good definitions here of false prophets. Now, here are some examples:








Jim Jones, Charles Manson, David Koresh, David Berg- founder of the family, Marshall Applewhite-of Heaven's Gate. These men were self proclaimed prophets. And few, if any, of their followers survived their leaders genocide.
Isaiah 8:20 - To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word (Scripture), it is because there is no light in them. Emphasis mine.

Pastor John Hagee. Not sure if he is a false prophet but among his beliefs I disagree with are that Jesus was not the messiah. He also seems to be anti-Catholic and that is an attack on Jesus and the Church he founded.

Those who promote homophobia as ';love'; or ';morality.'; The Bible tells us that we ';will know them by their fruits.'; And that ';Bad fruit cannot come from a good tree.'; If we look at the ';fruits'; of homophobia, we find such evils as discrimination, harm, suicides, violence, attacks, ruined lives and murder. Since these are examples of ';bad fruit'; and we know that ';bad fruit cannot come from a good tree'; those who promote homophobia are false prophets.

Anyone who claims to speak for any god.
I believe that a false prophet is anyone who claims to be delivering God's word, but instead they lead people astray - whether they even realize it or not. They do not have to ask their followers to ';worship'; them, but I think their hearts are all about power and money rather than being on the Lord's errand.
A false prophet is someone distorting the word of God and Jesus Christ and ministering falsely.
